Dan Dennis
My name is Dan Dennis and I am a teacher at the Leonardo da Vinci School for Gifted Learners. I work primarily with the middle level population by instructing three periods of science, one period of math, and a period of base team. I was excited when I learned of the opportunity to serve on the PTO’s Board of Directors and have eagerly volunteered my services.
I have taught in the Green Bay Area Public School system for my entire professional career. This is my fourth year at Leonardo da Vinci. I joined the school in its' second year and have proudly helped to shape the program into what it is today. Before working at Leonardo da Vinci, I taught at Nicolet Elementary for fourteen years. Twelve of those years were under the leadership of Tammy Van Dyke. While at Nicolet Elementary, I was very active. I taught multiple years in grades two, three, and five. I was an important part of the school’s implementation of Spencer Kagan’s Cooperative Learning and Win-Win Discipline programs. I also coached the school’s boys basketball team for twelve years.
Growing up, I spent a lot of time with my grandfather Gordon G. Barkell. He was very influential in shaping who I am today. My grandfather was a superintendent of schools for 26 years and later had a school named in his honor. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin Green Bay in 1998 with a major in elementary education and a minor in science. I went on to Marian University and earned a Master’s degree in Educational Technology.
In the future, I look forward to being an important part of the growth and continued development of Leonardo da Vinci School for Gifted Learners. I believe that relationships are a key component of education as I work to inspire and build bonds with students.
